The Chamber of Commerce is once again sponsoring the fun-filled day to provide a day of family fun for both summer and local residents — in the "good ole mountain style". To start the day off, the Chamber has planned a mountain parade for anyone who Tri.shes to join in. The parade will be composed of floats and everyone is encouraged to put his thinking cap on and think up one. There will be a con test for the best float and who kncfifs— you might just win. The parade is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m so bring your mules, dogs, wash tubs, and rub boards and join in the fun. (COWTUraED OH PAGE 16) DEATH TAKES JACK' H. WILCOX Jir. Jack H. Wilcox, prominent High lands resident, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, July lU, at his home on Billy Cabin Mountain at the age of 70. 14*. Wilcox was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on January 9, 1898. He served in the U, S* Arroy in World War I on the Xfestern Front with the famous 69th regi ment of the Rainbow Division. He later received degrees from the University of Wisconsin and Vanderbilt University, and taught in Adult Education in Wisconsin. In 1932 he was married to Virginia Randall. He and >4*3. Wilcox moved to Highlands in 1936 to develop their Billy Cabin Farm. Wilcox served as Town Clerk of Highlands from 19h3 - 19U6. During that time he helped in reducing the indebted ness of the town. During 19U6-19U7 he taught at Mis souri Valley College in I&rshall, J^ssouri, where he was Dean of Men and Chairman of the Department of Economics. He taught economics at the University of Tennessee in the school of Business Administration from 19U8 until his retirement in I960, He was one of the original founders of the Highlands Community Theatre in 1939 (CONTPIUED ON PAGE T^JELVE) 17th YEAR OF PUBLICATION
